The historic train station building at the Deisenhofen S-Bahn stop lay dormant for many years.

Now there will be a restaurant there, including a beer garden, event rooms, a kiosk next door for MVV users and a public toilet.

Oberhaching

- The community was able to purchase the listed train station from Deutsche Bahn in 2014 and the local council looked at a usage concept for the building from 1875. This is how the idea of building an inclusive catering business came about.

Together with the Karl Hopfner Foundation, the community founded the non-profit company “Bahnhof Deisenhofen gGmbH” in 2018.

The shares are 49 percent held by the municipality and 51 percent by the foundation.

A dry spell followed and the project came to a standstill, on the one hand due to the corona pandemic, and on the other hand the negotiations with the railways for areas around the building proved to be very tough.

The land acquisition could only take place in 2021.

The project got rolling again.

Plans from Wiesn landlady Katharina Inselkammer

At the same time, Wiesn landlady Katharina Inselkammer was asked to create an inclusive restaurant in the historic house.

She has a lot of practical experience as she already successfully runs the “Kunst-Werk-Küche” in Munich.

In addition to a restaurant, there is also catering and a cooking school.

“I believe in true inclusion, we train people with intellectual and psychological disabilities who can then do their job confidently and proudly,” she explained.

“When I first saw a photo of the train station, I couldn't believe it, but my great-great-great-grandfather built the building, nothing happens by chance,” Inselkammer told local councilors at their most recent meeting.

“We want to create a place where everyone enjoys spending their time.” This corresponds to the ideas of the community, which wants a “place to meet”.

And it also fits exactly with the ideals of the Karl Hopfner Foundation.

“The aim of the foundation is to support the interests of disabled people and young people,” said foundation founder Karl Hopfner.

“The community wants to actively help to make inclusion viable and natural,” said Mayor Stefan Schelle (CSU).

The kiosk should be visually reminiscent of a train carriage

The restaurant on the ground floor will have 50 seats and the beer garden will have 90 seats.

The kiosk should be visually reminiscent of a train carriage.

The building will be completely gutted and renovated in accordance with listed buildings.

There will be event rooms on the first floor and five guest rooms will be created on the second floor.

“The idea behind it is to also offer training in hotel management,” explained Inselkammer.

A shared apartment for employees will be set up in the attic.

The costs for the renovation will be around 3.7 million euros, 2.2 million euros will go towards converting the building into a restaurant and hotel.

The municipality covers the construction costs that must be met to maintain the building even without the project.

Bahnhof Deisenhofen gGmbH will finance the remaining funds through donations and loans.
