Two women, two connections with National Socialism, a villa in Nuremberg.

The artist collective LOCI stages the lives of Emilie Löb and Gabriele Lehmann - and relies on the smartphone.

Nuremberg – At first glance, a yellow villa in the north of Nuremberg appears inconspicuously in the neighborhood of the central Franconian city.

But upon closer inspection, you quickly notice how steeped in history the house is.

In the 1930s, the Jewish Emilie Löb lived here with her husband and children.

On Kristallnacht the family was attacked in the villa - her husband was murdered in the family home and the children were later deported.

She was the only family member to survive National Socialism.

A few years later, in the 1950s, Gabriele Lehmann moved into the historically significant house.

The well-known lawyer, who was known as “Ganoven-Gabi,” defended Nazis at the Nuremberg Trials.

The yellow villa connects the two women and their life stories, each of which was shaped by National Socialism in very different ways.

“The two women never met, and yet they left traces in the rooms of the house.

Traces of career, success and belonging, but also of loneliness, exclusion and crime,” describes a press release from the LOCI collective.

Experience Nazi history with your smartphone and headphones

Anyone interested now has the opportunity to search for clues in the infamous villa.

The theater and media collective LOCI wants to bring historical places to life and, based on this motivation, developed “The House of Mrs. L”.

This is a mixed media production: visitors walk through the six rooms of the villa with smartphones and headphones.

QR codes can then be used to view videos that illustrate the lives of the two women.

“We locate the memories of the two women in the rooms.

The exciting thing is that the visitors are right at the original location,” explains set designer Maria Pfeiffer.

Together with the cultural scientist Niklas Kammermeier, she is the main person responsible for the production.

The video tour takes place in the premises of the creative space VILLIBALD, which is located in the historic villa.

“Realities of life from the present and the past come together”

See life from the perspective of Emilie Löb and Gabriele Lehmann: When visitors watch the videos, they take on the perspective of the two women.

The recordings therefore require no actors at all.

“The production is totally exciting because several realities of life from the present and the past come together,” says Pfeiffer.

She recommends the production for young people aged 15 and over; there are no brutal images to be seen.

Production opens on Friday: advance registration required

The big – already fully booked – opening of the production will take place on Friday, March 8, 2024.

Anyone interested can then visit the exhibition on the two following Sundays, March 10th and March 17th, and on Friday, March 22nd.

The production can then be booked permanently for groups.

A tour lasts around 90 minutes - there are several starting times.

In addition, space capacity is limited, which is why anyone interested in making an appointment should register by sending an email to tickets@loci-kollektiv.de before visiting.

Guests should bring their own smartphone and headphones.

The entrance fee is between 10 and 18 euros at your own discretion.
