FDP defense politician Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann swore the Gautingen cinema audience about the seriousness of the global political situation.
Questions arose from the ranks as to whether she would send her own children to the front.
Gauting – There was a hustle and bustle and police presence around the Gauting wide-screen cinema on Wednesday afternoon.
Not only because the visit of the polarizing defense politician Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann made certain security precautions necessary.
But also because a few meters further, in front of the post office, demonstrators were calling for a “detente policy”.
The rally, which was attended by around 40 people, was registered by Ingo Scharpff, chairman of the district association of the Die Basis party.
“Warmonger to the front” or “Create peace without weapons” could be read on the posters – addressed to the FDP’s top candidate for the European elections.
And then, keyword hustle and bustle, tractors were parked in front of the cinema.
A few farmers took advantage of the presence of political celebrities, ignoring the actual occasion, to show their presence.
But they quickly moved away again.
After all, they don’t want to have anything to do with “lateral thinkers,” as the farmers’ district association told Merkur.

The reason for the crowd in front of the cinema was what was happening inside, in Hall 1, which was full with around 125 people.
The FDP district association around chairwoman Britta Hundesrügge had invited Strack-Zimmermann and the Bavarian top candidate Phil Hackemann to get in the mood for the European elections.
Both gave a keynote speech.
Hackemann initially praised the European internal market as an “engine of prosperity” and called, among other things, for the abolition of the unanimity principle at EU level – “so that Viktor Orbán no longer has to leave the room for five minutes and then pay dearly for that.”
Hackemann, 29 years old, was only the opening act that day in Gauting.
Finally, everyone waited for the main act: Strack-Zimmermann, who appeared in front of the big screen in a light blue shirt and beige blazer.

With a little effort, the chairwoman of the Defense Committee delivered what her supporters celebrate: clear statements.
Yes, she can be diplomatic too; in Gauting she only used the word “weapons” when she couldn’t avoid it.
But there are hardly any empty phrases and clausalizations that are typical of politicians.
Whether Russia, China or the Houthi rebels in the Red Sea: Strack-Zimmermann swore the room to the seriousness of the global political situation.
“If we don’t pay attention today, if we don’t listen to the despots, we will experience our blue miracle.” The 65-year-old asked urgently and rhetorically: “Have we recognized the seriousness of the situation?
Are we ready to defend ourselves?" Europe urgently needs to radiate strength and show clear reactions to provocations: "Everyone has to know: whoever touches this continent will have to deal with the continent." So deterrence instead of relaxation.

A visitor's question, which district chairwoman Hundesrügge addressed to the political star guest on behalf of the political star guest, was probably also aimed at deterring people: "Would you send your children to the front?" Strack-Zimmermann, mother of two adult sons and a daughter, replied that the question was justified, but also very theoretical.
“If my house were set on fire, if I were raped, I believe that my family would defend me.” However, it would be comfortable to think about it in a warm cinema seat, she told the questioner.

Another wanted to know why the Taurus weapons weren't simply delivered without making it public.
Strack-Zimmermann used humor to suggest that that wouldn't be so bad, but that transparency in politics isn't the worst thing either.
The Taurus is a “symbol of power and powerlessness – and that is not helpful for Ukraine.”
As she left the cinema, she was met with boos.
She offered a conversation – not to the delight of her bodyguards.
But the demonstrators didn't really respond to it.
And so the politician quickly disappeared in a black limousine.
