The Swedish Security Service (Sapo) announced Thursday the arrest in the Stockholm region of four people linked to
“violent Islamist extremism”
who were planning attacks.
The four individuals were arrested during an operation carried out in cooperation with the police and several locations were searched, according to a Sapo press release.
“They are suspected of preparing terrorist acts and aggravated weapons-related crimes
,” the security service said.
“The case concerns violent Islamist extremism
,” Sapo continued, adding that there were also links to organized crime.
Several loud bangs
For its part, the prosecution confirmed the arrests in a statement and said an investigation was being led by a prosecutor from its security unit, without providing details.

reported that residents heard several loud bangs as police stormed buildings in a southern Stockholm suburb.
