Erding - Cycling for a good climate - this was the motto of the city cycling competition, which aimed to cover as many everyday journeys as possible by bike in a climate-friendly way over 21 days.
In Erding, 300 cyclists took part from June 24th to July 14th and covered 53,673 kilometers.
The most kilometers of the 23 teams, namely 11,743, were covered by the 47 participants from the Korbinian Aigner Gymnasium (KAG).
The City Cycling competition is an event run by the Climate Alliance, a network of municipalities founded in 1990 to promote cycling, climate protection and quality of life.
At the award ceremony in the museum, Mayor Max Gotz emphasized how useful cycling is: “It protects the environment, it protects the climate and is also good for personal fitness.” Campaigns such as “city cycling” are therefore ideally suited to the environmental issue to move the focus.
“We have the ambitious goal of making cycling safer and contributing to climate protection,” said the mayor.
When redesigning Friedrich-Fischer-Platz, parking spaces would be created for cyclists and the square would be designed with shady trees, Gotz announced.
With almost 2,000 members from more than 25 European countries, the Climate Alliance is considered the world's largest city network dedicated to climate protection.
Erding is also a member.
In the Erdinger competition, the KAG was followed by Dr.
Herbert Weinberger School, Amadeus ProClimate Racers, the Heilig Blut girls' secondary school, the Erding town hall and the open team with the ADFC.
