Many people sorely miss it as an event venue, the Weilheimer Stadthalle.

It has been closed for two and a half years due to structural defects.

But what does it actually look like in the hall at the moment?

Weilheim

– It has now been two and a half years that practically no one apart from planners and construction workers is allowed to enter Weilheim's town hall.

The hall has been closed since static defects in the roof structure were discovered in the summer of 2021.

Alternative accommodation must be found for all events that otherwise take place there - or they will simply be canceled.

A total of around 20 companies are working on the renovation

Since then, there has been little to see from the outside to suggest that this situation will soon end.

But a lot has happened inside.

Whether in the foyer, in the staircase, in the cloakroom or sanitary areas: cladding and cladding have been removed everywhere and pipes are being re-laid.

The necessary renovation of the ceilings and the entire statics entails further complex measures, such as fire protection upgrades and sound insulation.

At the same time, work is being carried out that was due in the coming years, such as the renovation of the toilets, electrical and technical updates.

From the demolition to the final painting work, a total of around 20 companies are working on the renovation of the town hall.

The hall of the town hall will look a little different in the future

The centerpiece is of course the hall, which is currently just a forest of scaffolding.

After the work, it will look different than it did before, reveals Sibylle Rausch, who is overseeing the renovation project for the city building authority.

With plasterboard and soundproofing elements, the hall will have a predominantly white ceiling and will appear “less wooden”.

First of all, the huge new steel beams have to be delivered and installed.

After production in Geretsried, coating in Regensburg and a not uncomplicated transport, they are expected in May.

It's been a long time since we've seen the inside of the Weilheimer Stadthalle - and at the moment it would hardly be recognizable to many people: Current photo of the cloakroom area in the basement.

The long-awaited reopening of the Weilheimer Stadthalle is still planned for autumn 2024.

By then, the renovation costs are expected to total around 4.9 million euros net.

And according to city treasurer Christoph Scharf, it currently looks like this cost framework can be adhered to, since “pretty much all orders have been awarded,” as he explained when asked by the local newspaper.

Incidentally, net prices are calculated here because the city is doing business with the hall and the sales tax is therefore a “pass-through item”.
