Germering - From February 19th to March 1st, the Kerschensteiner Middle School exhibited the traveling exhibition “How are you?” on the subject of mental health from the “Irrsinnsinn” association in the school auditorium in cooperation with the Fürstenfeldbruck Health Department.
In view of the growing challenges in the area of mental health among young people, it was important for youth social work at Kerschensteiner Middle School to offer an offer on this current topic.
Awareness of mental health should be increased and dialogue about it should be encouraged in classes.
Mental health exhibition and workshop
The exhibition deals with the most common mental illnesses in a way that is suitable for young people.
It shows insights into the emotional world of young people when their souls are burdened and overloaded.
But what helped young people and concrete tips for dealing with a mental crisis are also discussed, which were well received by the middle school students.
“The workshop/exhibition was great!
Difficult, tough topic worked out/discussed/thought about together in the community – great!” was just one opinion.
The focus is on bullying at school, eating disorders, self-harming behavior, psychoses, depression, drug and alcohol addiction and suicide, but also a banner with the theme “What is good for you?”.
Depression can take many forms - students learned more about this topic.

The organizers Jacqueline Kimpel, youth social worker from AWO Oberbayern, and Andrea Kriegner from the Fürstenfeldbruck Health Department offered a workshop to school classes in grades 6 to 9 as an additional option.
The focus here was to raise awareness of the topic of psychological stress and illnesses, to reduce prejudices and stigmas, and to convey resilience and action strategies for coping.
In this context, contact details for local advice centers were also passed on and attention was drawn to the number against grief (116111).
The workshop also discussed that in acute situations, such as suicide announcements or indications of a shooting spree, the emergency number should be called immediately.
The exhibition and workshop were so well received by the teachers and students that they are considering repeating the project.
