The Chief of Staff, Lt. Col. Hartzi Halevi, today (Thursday) distributed the order for internal investigations that will deal with the chain of events starting with the beginning of the war in Gaza on October 7.
As part of the orders, Lt. Col. Halevi established timetables for completion within two months, and then moving on to the data processing phase which will last about a month - then the conclusions will be presented to the IDF General Staff.
At this stage, it has not yet been determined whether the military attorney and the military police will be able to review the material of the internal investigations.
Also, at this stage it has not yet been decided who will interrogate the Chief of Staff - with an emphasis on the night between October 6 and 7. For the time being, the Chief of Staff has rejected the letter of appointment to the external committee, but there is a possibility that a committee will be reappointed to question him and the other generals - This move was criticized in the political system and the security system.

The Chief of Staff stated that the purpose of the investigation is to learn and draw lessons from the IDF in order to improve the effectiveness of the current fighting, prepare for the next campaign, strengthen the effort to return the settlements and protect them, as well as build the IDF's competence and develop the IDF's power building.
Ral HaLevi also stated that the internal investigation will focus on October 7 and the events that preceded it. The demarcation of the investigation will be in the period of time between March 2018 - the "Gatekeepers" events, and the first three days of the war, when the security situation in the Gaza Strip will be established and control of the southern settlements will be achieved.
The Chief of Staff assumed that the person who will coordinate the execution of the order is the Tohad Department in the Operations Division. Each division, arm and command will define a regular representative who will complete the investigation process.
