Mobility is and remains a big issue.

In Murnau, a specially employed manager recently dealt with this.

She has now presented the final report on the mobility concept phase 2.

The catalog of measures contains 34 projects.

It remains to be seen what will be implemented – also against the background of the tense financial situation.

Murnau

– Two years have passed.

So Dr.

Andrea Falkner clears her desk in the municipal works rooms.

On March 1, 2022, she took up her newly created half-time position as mobility manager for the Murnau market, which was funded with 60 percent funding for two years by the European Leader program.

From then on she worked on promoting cycling, increasing walking, sharing concepts, e-mobility and local public transport.

Last appearance in the local council

Now she had her last appearance in the market town council.

It was about the final report on the mobility concept phase 2. It consists of 56 pages.

To present it in its entirety would have gone beyond the scope.

So Falkner limited himself to a few sentences.

Around seven years ago, the Energy, Environment and Transport Committee decided that the integrated mobility concept “Murnau Mobil 2025” would be created.

It is divided into four phases.

The Phase 2 report contains a catalog of 34 measures.

Falkner suggested that these could be presented “bit by bit” to the Transport Committee and modified if necessary.

She also suggested pushing forward the concept for the planned mobility station at the train station this year “so that there is enough time”.

The associated municipal housing construction is scheduled to be completed by summer 2025.

The 34 measures are diverse.

“Many have already been implemented and tackled,” says Welf Probst (Free Voters), consultant for roads, traffic, paths and squares.

For example, the Murnau market increased the number of bike parking facilities.

It remains to be seen to what extent the catalog will be processed.

That will also depend on finances.

“The measures cost money,” says Probst.

This will be difficult in the near future.

The monetary situation on the Murnau market is currently very tense.

Probst is generally not a fan of such concepts.

In his opinion, this kind of thing often turns out to be a “paper tiger” that disappears into a drawer.

Probably two stops for the Alpine bus

One project from the catalog, for example, relates to the Alpine bus.

The Murnau market is expected to have two stops.

In addition to the train station, a second one is planned on the B2 near Kemmelpark.

“The design of this stop and also the provision of bicycle parking spaces is an important task,” writes Falkner.

Starting next year, the Alpine bus will connect the Oberland from Rosenheim to Murnau.

The bypass is not an issue in the concept.

Probst regrets this.

The tangent would be a “big milestone” for him.

But we haven't heard anything about the plans for a while.

In any case, the question arises as to whether the federal government will still have money for such projects in the future.

“I’m not giving up hope,” says Probst.

Back to Falconer.

Mayor Rolf Beuting (ÖDP/Citizens' Forum) praised their commitment over the past two years.

“The mobility baby screams loudly, we brought it into the world.” Now it’s time to implement it.

“It is important to have structured concepts that we can look into,” says Beuting.

Falkner won't be bored in the future.

She is a freelance mountain hiking guide and primarily crosses the Alps with those interested.

She also has a teaching position at the University of Ulm, where she speaks to students about “corporate strategies for climate neutrality”.
