On March 8th, activities for International Women's Day will take place across Bavaria.

Where there will be demonstrations and what is planned.

An overview.

Munich - International Women's Day, also called Feminist Fight Day or International Women's Day, has been taking place on March 8th for 113 years - and celebrates what has been achieved, but also calls out the problems and injustices that still exist.

Numerous demonstrations, film screenings, readings and other activities will take place throughout Bavaria on and around March 8th.

An overview of what is planned in cities in the Free State.

Munich: “We won’t shut up” festival, readings and exhibitions

The central demonstration will take place in the state capital at Marienplatz at 5 p.m.

The Munich Action Alliance has called for March 8th and is taking to the streets, among other things, demands for the “right to sexual self-determination and a self-determined life” as well as “social solutions for unpaid housework, childcare and care work”.

Since 2020, the “We-won’t-shut-up” festival has been an integral part of the series of events for International Women’s Day in Munich.

You don't want to be silenced and therefore want to give "women from different (professional) areas" a voice and "offer artists and musicians an opportunity to present their creativity and celebrate March 8th together." As part of the festival Numerous events will take place on and around March 8th at the Glockenbachwerkstadt community center, the Bellevue di Monaco and the Habibi Kiosk, among others.

  • Exhibition “Visible.

    Women in Architecture”

    : from March 7th to 28th in the hall of the Technical Town Hall at Friedenstraße 40, weekdays from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., free entry.

  • Exhibition “Look at Woman – Memorable Women

    ”: until March 9th in the Riem City Library, Tuesday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., finissage on March 8th, 6 p.m.

  • Reading “Courage of Women”

    : reading performance for International Women’s Day, in which women of all ages express their thoughts on love, Mohr-Villa, 6.30 p.m.

  • Art exhibition “THE FEMALE SHOW”

    : Compilation of over 50 national and international artists curated by Josephine Kaiser, March 8th to April 20th in the Munich Art project space, Amalienstraße 14, Wednesday to Friday 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Thousands demonstrated last year on International Women's Day in Munich and protested for women's rights, more places in women's shelters and equal pay as well as against patriarchy and sexism.

Activities will also take place in Munich and other Bavarian cities in 2024.

Ingolstadt: from the Danube walk to the disco club sound

International Women's Day is celebrated in Ingolstadt as part of the FEM*FESTIVAL, a cooperation between the Equal Opportunities Office and the Cultural Office.

The traditional women's path, which this year leads along the Danube, is taking place in the Bavarian city for the ninth time, as the city of Ingolstadt announces on its homepage.

Starts at 6 p.m., meeting point Rathausplatz.

Accompanied by a city guide, participants explore the river.

A lecture by sociologist Joost van Loon on the challenges of gender equality will then take place in the culture hall at 7.30 p.m.

At 8.30 p.m. you can celebrate and dance to “classics from rock and pop history” at Disco-Club*Club-Disco.

The city's equal opportunities officer, Barbara Deimel, believes that what has been achieved in gender equality should also be celebrated on Women's Day.

Augsburg: Demonstration through the city center and “dancing against sexism”

Under the motto “Antifascist is only possible in a feminist way!”

Fight feminists now!” a demo for the feminist day of struggle is taking place in Augsburg.

The starting point is at Rathausplatz at 4 p.m.

Interim rallies are planned at the Blaue Kappe and the theater.

The demonstration is organized by the “Augsburg Feminist Strike Committee”.

Afterwards there will be a demo after show concert in the City Club from 8 p.m., followed by a Flinta*-only rave from 11:30 p.m.

Flinta* stands for women, lesbians, intersex, non-binary, trans and agender people.

According to the organizers, revelers can dance together in the club against sexism.

Nuremberg: Demo march through the city and party under the motto “we’re taking the night back!”

The Alliance March 8th invites you to a protest march through the city center in Nuremberg.

The demonstration begins at 5 p.m. at Plärrer, corner of Gostenhofer Hauptstrasse.

According to the organizers, the demonstration train will then move back to Plärrer via the White Tower and the train station.

The alliance expects around 500 participants.

Under the slogan “we'll take the night back!”, we'll then go to the FLINTA* only party in the Z building.

Würzburg: queer-feminist demonstration and free drink for women at the theater performance

In Würzburg there will be a demonstration “for the international queer-feminist day of struggle” at the main train station at 4 p.m. – with music, art and speeches.

According to the organizers, there is an awareness team and a stimulus-reduced block at the end of the demo procession.

Of course, March 8th can also be celebrated with plenty of art and culture: Under the motto of equality and empowerment, the Theaterwerkstatt Würzburg is performing the play “Hedda Gabler” by Henrik Ibsen.

All women get a free drink, as the University of Würzburg announces on its homepage.

Erlangen: city tour about women's history, lectures and film screenings

Between 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., the Erlangen Autonomous Women's Shelter and the women's shelter's children's shelter are organizing an action stand at Hugenottenplatz on International Women's Day.

The city tour is organized by the Erlanger Tourism and Marketing Association.

The film screening “#FemalePleasure” will take place at 6 p.m. in the E-Werk cinema in Fuchsenwiese 1.

According to the organizer (pregnancy advice from the city of Erlangen), the film follows five women from five world religions and shows “their successful, risky fight for self-determined female sexuality and for equal, respectful coexistence between the sexes.”

Regensburg: educational festival, film screenings and lectures

Several activities will take place in Regensburg on and around March 8th.

Between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., local institutions with a focus on gender equality will introduce themselves on International Women's Day.

The meeting point is in the room for engagement on St.-Kassians-Platz.

Represented include pro familia Regensburg, the Girls Working Group*, the anti-discrimination office at the University of Regensburg and Caritas Regensburg.

As part of the three-week exhibition on “Breaking Baldes - Break Off FGM_C”, short lectures on female genital cutting will take place in the St. Gabriel advice center, Bruderwöhrdstraße 3, between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.

At 6:30 p.m. the Working Group Film Regensburg e.

V. / International Short Film Week Regensburg in the W1 - Center for Young Culture (theater hall) a short film evening.

Fürth: Reading “What Men Cost – Time for Change” and other activities

In Fürth, the city's equal opportunities office and the Fürth women's associations are participating with an "extensive program of activities, theater, lectures and music" around International Women's Day, the city announces on its website.

A distribution campaign by the SPD Women in Fürth will take place on March 8th;

from 2 p.m. the campaign by the Independent Women Fürth UFF, from 3 p.m. the campaign “Efficient, energetic, virtuous: The women of Fürth” and from 4:30 p.m. women's power in the Fürth market.

The reading “What Men Cost – Time for Change” follows at 6 p.m. and, according to the city, the day of action ends at 8 p.m. with music with Felicia Peters.
