Spared by the norovirus which struck - among others - the Arcachon basin (Gironde), Manche and Calvados, the 670 oyster farmers nevertheless suffer from the mistrust of consumers.
These professionals thought they would succeed thanks to their oyster farms where more than 40,000 tonnes of oysters are refined each year - almost 45% of national production.
These seawater basins specific to Charente-Maritime make it possible to confine the oysters and limit any norovirus infection spread by wastewater networks and treatment plants...
