Already convicted twice by the courts, the suspect is accused of attacking a sixty-year-old man leaving a synagogue on March 6

On the civil parties' bench this Friday March 8, the 63-year-old victim still bears the scars of her attack.

On March 6, as he was leaving the synagogue, a kippah on his head, the suspect allegedly said to him “Dirty Jew, I'm going to kill you, you're killing Palestinians,” before hitting him violently in the face.

The defendant, who obtained the adjournment of the trial this Friday, is known to the courts.

He was convicted twice, once for similar crimes.

Drug trafficking and temporary work

The man, born in Pointe-à-Pitre in Guadeloupe, is 31 years old.

In 2012, he settled permanently in France, and launched into drug trafficking “to get by”, he explains.

He then took on odd temporary jobs.

He also says he was a tattoo artist and a DJ.

According to the social survey, he is addicted to cannabis, and consumes five joints a day.

His criminal record shows two convictions.

A first in 2018, when he received a fine for using drugs and carrying a bladed weapon.

In 2022, he was sentenced for acts similar to those with which he is accused today.

He had threatened to kill a Jewish man, declaring "I'm going to kill you, you're not Jewish, we're going to get our land back."

He was sentenced to two years and six months in prison, including 18 months suspended.

He was then examined by an expert psychiatrist, who did not note any abnormalities.

Incoherent remarks

Today, his mental health questions the court.

While in police custody, the defendant made incoherent comments.

If he does not dispute the facts, the motives for his action are not clear.

He explains that he has the truth, and “to be the chosen one of God, the first of the Jews”.

The hearing was interrupted because a psychiatrist considered that his state of health was incompatible with police custody and that he should be hospitalized.

He was therefore admitted to the Psychiatric Infirmary of the police headquarters.

There he was examined by a second doctor, who came to another conclusion: his condition does not require hospitalization, he can be presented to a court.

Before the magistrates, he explained that he was part of a gang, with which he allegedly carried out robberies.

“What did you rob?”

» asks the president.

“Vehicles, scooters,” replies the defendant, clearly confused.

Words which provoke the president's incomprehension.

She considers that a new psychiatric assessment is welcome, and postpones the case to a later date.
