In a “ZDF Magazin Royale” show, Jan Böhmermann waves around with a rifle.
Suddenly a shot seems to be fired.
What was happening?
Police officers are now taking a closer look.
ZDF can calm you down.
Cologne - Satirist Jan Böhmermann (43) staged himself as a hunter with a rifle in his show - now the Cologne police are concerned about this.
A police spokesman said when asked on Friday that it would be checked what type of weapon it was.
It is being investigated whether the use of the weapon could constitute a violation of the Weapons Act or other regulations.
However, the test is not yet completed.
There is no investigation against Böhmermann.
According to the police, the test was triggered by information from spectators.
Böhmermann took a critical look at the topic of hunting in an issue of his “ZDF Magazin Royale” from March 1st.
In the show he wore a hunter's outfit in loden green and a rifle with which he supposedly shot.
The ZDF has now made things clear: “It is a non-functional, unloaded decorative rifle that does not require any permits or weapons masters to operate it,” explained a spokeswoman in Mainz.
According to the relevant article of the Weapons Act, the ban on carrying so-called apparent weapons “expressly does not apply to use in film and television recordings,” the broadcaster emphasized.
“The decorative rifle was borrowed for the show from a professional special effects company.
All supposed “shots” and “muzzle flashes” were added digitally in post-production, as were all the banging noises.” ZDF and the production company are not aware of any criminal charges or police investigations.
Böhmermann reacted with irony in a statement.
“I am pleased that there are so many technically competent weapons and hunting experts in Germany who use a non-functional film air rifle and a few simple iMovie sound and video effects as an opportunity to advocate for tightening gun laws and making them more effective “To control hunting,” he said.
“Bild” had previously reported on it.
“Special regulations apply to the use of weapons during filming,” a police spokeswoman explained to the newspaper.
