The US Embassy in Moscow warns of possible terrorist attacks in the coming days.

At the same time, Russia claims to have already prevented an attack.

Moscow – Both the USA and Russia have reported a terrorist threat in the Russian capital Moscow.

On Thursday evening (March 7), the American Embassy in Moscow issued a warning to its citizens to avoid attending large gatherings.

The reason is the risk of terrorist attacks.

Terror attack in Moscow?

US Embassy warns American citizens

"The embassy is monitoring reports that extremists have imminent plans to attack large gatherings in Moscow, including concerts," said the statement, posted on the embassy's official website.

American citizens are therefore advised to “avoid large gatherings for the next 48 hours.”

The warning was later adopted by the British Embassy in Moscow.

No further details were published in the announcement.

There were initially no concrete reactions from Moscow to the US embassy's warning.

However, Russian authorities reported a foiled terrorist attack in the capital.

Accordingly, a cell of the terrorist militia “Islamic State” was located in Kaluga, southwest of Moscow.

Their goal: an attack on a synagogue in the capital.

Special units from the domestic secret service FSB then moved in to “neutralize the danger,” as Russian media reported.

Apparently, the terrorists opened fire during the operation and were eliminated by the domestic intelligence officers.

The secret service did not provide any information about how many terrorists were killed in total.

Various weapons, ammunition and explosives were seized from the house.

Russian state media published footage from the house of the IS cell, which apparently belongs to the Afghan wing of the terrorist group.

On display are the bodies of two alleged IS terrorists and their weapons, including at least one Kalashnikov rifle and a knife as well as associated ammunition.

It is unclear whether the Russian operation and the US embassy warning are related.

The Russian presenter and well-known Kremlin propagandist Margarita Simonyan commented on the short message service Telegram about the warning from the US embassy and its adoption by the British representation.

She couldn't help but reproach herself.

“Inexpensive 'partners'!” Simonyan initially wrote, obviously ironically, and added: “If you have concrete information, it must be passed on via the secret services.

I hope they did.

And if not, then that is complicity.”
