At the TSV 1860 home game last Saturday there was apparently no beer at some kiosks in the Grünwalder Stadium.

The Lions' caterer blames the stadium's dilapidated infrastructure for the bottleneck.

“I learned to drink beer in 1860.” Former Lions player Erich Beer told tz during a telephone campaign in 1984.

The headline has now become a cult quote.

The TSV 1860 Munich shop recently printed the saying on T-shirts.

After an actually critical report about the “beer drinker shirt,” sales figures went through the roof.

The Leiberl was sold out within a very short time.

The barley juice had already dried up by half time

Drinking beer in the stadium would actually be easy.

But there are apparently problems with this.

During the home game against second-placed SSV Ulm on March 2nd (0-1), some kiosks in the Grünwald stadium temporarily ran out of beer.

For example, a fan tells our newspaper that barley juice was no longer sold at the kiosk at Block J after halftime.

There was quickly a lot of gossip about it on social media channels.

On the one hand, they have the most expensive admission prices in the third league, but on the other hand, they don't manage to serve beer to everyone for over 90 minutes.

The Lions pay around 1.5 million euros in stadium rent per season - and are therefore at the top of the third division comparison.

The operator of the stadium catering, Lorenz Stiftl, explained the outage to the online blog “Die blau 24” with recurring power outages in the stadium.

“During the game against SSV Ulm, we saw first hand how dilapidated the stadium and its technical equipment are.” That’s why you always check everything before kick-off.

But this time there were technical problems with two lines.

His accusation: The facility had long since exceeded its capacity.

“There was enough beer on Saturday.

This also annoys us and makes us feel sorry for the guests.”

Lions expell the city of Munich

When asked, the TSV is extremely tight-lipped.

Press spokesman Rainer Kmeth only says one sentence: “The floodlights were on for 90 minutes.” If you have any further questions, you should contact the landlord, the city of Munich.

The sports department said there had been no complaints about technical problems during the last home game.

Otherwise you pass the ball back: “All rights and obligations pass to the respective club during use of the stadium.”

However, it is well known that there are always problems.

Martin Scherbel, chairman of the Friends of the Sechz'ger Stadium, tells our newspaper: “The fact that there are problems with electricity - especially in the catering industry - is nothing new.

The power supply has been a problem for decades.

When the Stiftl turns on his mulled wine stove in the winter, the fuse regularly blows out.”

The city is looking for a new tenant for the Grünwalder restaurant

By the way, the city of Munich is looking for a new tenant for the catering industry in the Grünwalder Stadium.

In addition to the VIP area, this also includes the seven stadium kiosks.

The application deadline ended on February 23rd.

According to the tender, the new tenant should take over on July 1st.

Subleasing is also possible.

Applicants must have “at least relevant experience in catering in a football stadium with a capacity of at least 15,000 spectators”.

The actual tenant, the Paulaner Group, has currently handed over management to the Stiftl company.
