Many local routes are “inaccessible,” says Josef Kronthaler – currently you get stuck in the mud, as the sprightly pensioner demonstrates.

For Josef Kronthaler it is a nuisance: many walking paths in Wolfersdorf are “inaccessible”.

He demands that the community “do its duty.”

Wolfersdorf

– For nature lovers, the community of Wolfersdorf offers plenty of space for walking or cycling.

The problem: “Some of the local roads are in an impassable and impassable condition,” says Josef Kronthaler.

Although the pensioner has already addressed the problem publicly - for example at the citizens' meeting - "nothing has happened so far," he says.

Josef Kronthaler has been traveling a lot on foot or by bike for over 40 years.

But many walking paths are overgrown in summer and hardly accessible in winter.

“This is a problem for women with strollers or older people,” he says, showing concrete examples during the FT visit.

For example, it's hard to get through on the walk to Wölfing or to the "Am Hölzl" estate - Josef Kronthaler always gets stuck in the mud or has to move to neighboring fields and meadows.

The sprightly pensioner likes to move, but in Wolfersdorf he is far too often “in the field,” as he says, looking at the unkempt and uneven roads.

“There are so many beautiful circular routes,” he enthuses – in different lengths.

“But none of them are prepared.”

The problem is old, but it's getting bigger

When visiting the Freisinger Tagblatt in July 2022, when a group of pensioners went for a walk as part of the “Wolfersdorf moves” campaign, Kronthaler openly addressed the problem: “A network of hiking trails was created 20 years ago, but since then “Nothing more has been done,” he complained at the time.

Despite appropriate advice to the local council and mayor Anita Wölfle, nothing has happened to date.

On the contrary: “The situation has become increasingly worse in recent years,” he says.

The answer he usually got was that the farmers were responsible for repairing the paths, he reports.

But Kronthaler contradicts this: “The municipality is responsible for local connecting routes, for example Billingsdorf-Wölfing or Wolfersdorf-Am Hölzl.” However, farmers are responsible for the field paths.

However: “Several corridors and field paths no longer exist because they are managed by farmers.” And that in turn is “not allowed,” says Kronthaler.

“These paths must be preserved for local recreation, nature and species protection.”

Josef Kronthaler knows that many citizens enjoy being out and about in their home community.

And so he hopes that the community will “fulfill its duty” and finally restore the sidewalks and cycle paths.
