Protection despite damage: A tree fell into the rockfall device on the B2.

The protective structures on some federal highways in the district have been demolished.
The building authority wants to have the damage repaired quickly in the next few weeks and will explain whether there is now a danger to vehicle drivers.
Oberau – It looks pretty scary.
Among other things, on Federal Highway 2 between the end of the motorway and Oberau Nord, a tree fell on the rockfall net and pushed it down to the ground.
Similar things happened in four other places in the district, according to the Weilheim State Building Authority.
The heavy snowfall in December caused some trees to fall over.
The battered protective devices make drivers frown.
Road users wonder whether they are in danger from stones or rocks on the federal highway.
The good news first: Despite the obvious damage, the nets “have not lost their protective function,” says Nadine Heiß, deputy head of the road construction department.
The safety of vehicles from falling stones and trees is still largely guaranteed.
The sophisticated wire mesh on the side of the road is not a “rigid system” but has built-in cable brakes, she explains.
The spirals are 25 centimeters thick and can withstand several tons of weight.
This means: If a stone or a tree falls into the net, it is not broken, but the rope brake cushions the load.
The constructs should be repaired as quickly as possible
Nevertheless, the constructs will be repaired as quickly as possible, promises Heiß.
“In the next four weeks, a specialist company will come to remove the trees and put the nets back up,” she says.
This will require a partial road closure.
“This will happen at a time when there is less traffic,” promises Heiß.
But she also knows: “It’s not that easy on the B2.” The state building authorities in Bavaria emerged from the former building construction authorities and road construction authorities.
They are responsible for building construction projects in the Free State of Bavaria and the federal government as well as for the federal and state road networks in their respective areas of responsibility.
