Breaking down gender stereotypes in the construction world and demonstrating that the construction site is not just a place for men.

With these objectives, the 'Women in construction site' initiative was born by Toptaglio, a general contractor specialized in building redevelopment operations, which selected two workers for paid professional training which began last January and will last a total of three months.

Once ready to be included in the team, Renata and Cristina will be hired on a permanent basis.

In this period they are working alongside site managers and machine operators, learning to use excavators, robots and mini-loaders.

"The initiative was created to demolish stereotypes, because today working on a construction site is no longer as physically demanding as it was 20 years ago and everyone can do it. Especially in the construction world, a woman, who is more precise, is necessary in my opinion" he explains at ANSA on International Women's Day Chiara Passarello, surveyor and safety manager of Toptaglio, underlining that the company's goal "is to reach 2025 with 30 female figures within the construction site".

Renata Bianchi, one of the two aspiring construction site operators, previously worked in a food company.

She found this opportunity through a post on Facebook: "I said to myself: why not? If men can do it, I don't see why women can't do it too - she says - we can have a great time on the construction site, we just need to be willing and willing to learn things new".

Today Renata is convinced that this could become her future profession, as is Cristina Viscardi, also selected by Toptaglio.

"At the beginning, being all males - she comments - I was a little worried. But I wanted to change and work in an outdoor place even if it was tiring. Today I can say that in two months I have already learned a lot".

And even the relationship with men isn't that bad: "I found open-mindedness - she concludes she - she and it wasn't something to be taken for granted."
