The city of Miesbach is once again accepting a call for tenders from the municipal council.

And this despite the fact that the municipality has already had bad experiences with electricity.

Miesbach

– The city of Miesbach is once again risking its luck in the bundle tender of the Bavarian Municipal Association.

Unlike in 2022, when electricity was put out to tender collectively for the years 2023 to 2025, this time the natural gas tariffs were from 2025 to 2028. A long period of time given the changeable situation on the market.

In the end, Mayor Gerhard Braunmiller (CSU) got the green light to take part in the tender, but seven of the 24 council members considered this approach too risky.

Bundle tenders: Bad experiences with electricity prices

For understandable reasons, the term bundled tender creates an oppressive feeling for some in the city council.

As is well known, the district town took part in the binding call for proposals for the Bavarian Municipal Council in 2022 - in the first year of the Ukraine war.

The shot completely backfired: instead of securing a bargain price, the participating municipalities had to sign under excessive conditions.

Miesbach is now tied to 62 cents gross per kilowatt hour for three years.

The community council has learned from this misery.

The existing natural gas contract with Stadtwerke Amberg, which began in 2021, ends on January 1, 2025. A new, cheaper deal should be found by then - but now with a security mechanism: the forecast costs at the start of the process are compared with those before the start of the auctions.

If the price has risen by more than 20 percent, a vote will be taken as to whether the auctions will be held as planned or postponed.

Miesbach has to pay a fee of 2,142 euros

The process is handled by Kubus Kommunalberatung und Service GmbH from Schwerin, which has already carried out the previous bundled tenders.

She receives a fee from each participating municipality.

In Miesbach this is 2142 euros - depending on the population 1309 euros plus 59.50 euros for each of the 14 collection points.

Braunmiller sought approval by pointing out that a cheaper price could be expected depending on the number of participating municipalities.

Especially since time is of the essence, as he emphasized.

The registration period ended the day after the meeting.

As the town hall told our newspaper when asked, there was no chance of putting the call for tenders on the agenda in the previous two meetings due to the abundance of topics.

Local councilors view the tender critically

Michael Lechner (Free List) reacted reservedly to the offer: “My concern is that this security works and that we don’t experience a rude awakening like with electricity.” His parliamentary group colleague Markus Seemüller was also skeptical: “The markets are volatile and very fluid .

If we participate, we should contract for a shorter period of time.” It should be ensured that you get the usual market price.

Paul Fertl (SPD) saw the opportunity to achieve a cheaper price, “but we have already fallen on our face”.

As a result, the city “lost several 100,000 euros”.

It is also critical that the same service provider is carrying out the project as for electricity.

“It was very uncomfortable for them”

Managing director Gerhard Führer took up the cause of the community conference: “It was all very unpleasant for them.

But everything worked fine for twelve years.” Florian Perkmann (SPD) nevertheless called for a clear exit clause.

Braunmiller answered his question as to whether Miesbach could then say no: “We are not the actors.” Otherwise there would be a risk of a higher price for work and also a higher fee.

Manfred Burger (Greens) added that the problem with electricity was that in the end there was only one provider that we had to use.

Fertl, however, tried to weigh up the risks: With gas costs of 40,000 euros for the city in 2020, the 20 percent margin is 8,000 euros - a comparatively manageable amount.
