Riccardo Bossi, the eldest son of populist right-wing, anti-immigrant and secessionist NorthernLeague founder and ex-leader Umberto, is under investigation forallegedly defrauding the state, investigative sources said onFriday.
Prosecutors believe Bossi claimed citizenship income benefit between 2020 and 2023 without due entitlement.
Busto Arsizio prosecutor Nadia Alessandra Calcaterra has notified the suspect of the conclusion of the investigation and is reportedly preparing to request an indictment.
Bossi has already had several brushes with the law in relation to financial crimes.
In March 2016 a Milan court sentenced him to a year and eight months in prison for aggravated misappropriation for using Northern League funds for personal expenses.
His younger brother Renzo and father Umberto have also been at the center of judicial probes for alleged misappropriation of party funds.
