It is used to transport itself by air, but it will also have managed to travel through time.
Inaugurated on March 8, 1974, Charles-de-Gaulle airport is celebrating its 50th anniversary this Friday.
This unique work – the circular terminal 1 – is the first creation of the very young architect of Paris airport (today Aéroports de Paris or ADP), Paul Andreu.
His name has become inseparable from this work since he contributed for forty years to its development.
Since then, he has designed around twenty other airports and several emblematic works such as the Peking Opera (China) or the Osaka Maritime Museum (Japan).
The career of this major architect of the 20th century is the subject of an exhibition at the Cité de l'Architecture until June 2.
