A solo trip appeals to many women.
But what should you pay attention to and which holiday destinations are suitable?
Traveling without having to coordinate with others, pursuing your own interests and being able to act spontaneously - these are some of the reasons why many holidaymakers prefer to travel alone.
Solo travel is also very popular among women.
As a representative survey by the holiday booking portal
HolidayCheck
and the opinion research institute
YouGov
showed last year on the occasion of International Women's Day on March 8th, 24 percent of those surveyed had already been on holiday alone several times.
18 percent had been traveling unaccompanied at least once.
However, not every woman necessarily likes the idea of being completely on her own in foreign countries.
38 percent of those surveyed in the
HolidayCheck
survey have never traveled solo and cannot imagine doing so.
19 percent have never done it but would like to try it.
A current survey by the booking portal
Urlaubspiraten
shows that 58 percent of those surveyed are afraid of feeling lonely on solo trips.
Among women, 15 percent also have safety concerns when traveling alone.
For men it is only two percent.
Three tips for women traveling alone for the first time
The survey results show: There is definitely an interest in solo vacations among women and almost a quarter are actively pursuing them.

“Choose a travel destination in which you feel comfortable, which you may already know or whose language you speak,” is the first piece of advice.
The second relates to travel planning: those who decide and book a lot in advance often feel safer.
However, holidaymakers should also allow themselves some leeway.
“Other backpackers will usually give you great tips on site that you would otherwise miss.
For example, book the first few nights in a hostel with a women's dormitory in order to get connected there.
It’s best to bring a small padlock with you to keep your luggage safe,” says Stefanie Dose.
It could also be helpful to choose a travel destination that is already very popular with solo vacationers.
This means there is a high probability of meeting like-minded people - according to Stefanie Dose, these include Southeast Asia, Latin America and Australia.
Contacts can also be made via apps, for example Couchsurfing or Bumble BFF.
“With Couchsurfing you don’t have to stay overnight with anyone, there is also the option that you are only interested in meeting people,” says the travel expert.

They offer numerous options for an entertaining stay and are generally considered very safe.

There is a well-functioning infrastructure, high standards and hosts who are happy to welcome tourists.
Vacationing worry-free without a companion - even as a woman - is standard, especially in Bali or Thailand.
Japan or Australia and the neighboring country New Zealand are also recommended.
Travelers are attracted by the natural beauty, endless things to do and safe local environment.”
