The third uncrewed test flight of Starship, the SpaceX spaceship intended for trips to the Moon and Mars, is scheduled for March 14, at 12.30 pm Italian time.
This was revealed by Elon Musk's company, announcing the live streaming with a post on the social platform and the countdown had been stopped 10 seconds before launch.
The photos of the operations at the Starbase site, near Boca Chica in southern Texas, were also published on X by Elon Musk, who commented: "the third Starship flight is preparing for launch".
Although official launch authorization from the Federal Aviation Administration has not yet arrived, the agency recently announced that it had closed the investigation into the failed second Starship test flight in November, so a new launch in mid-March seems plausible from the regulatory point of view.
Certainly this time Elon Musk's company will have to demonstrate that it has taken advantage of the two previous flight tests, conducted in April and November 2023 and both interrupted a few minutes after launch by exploding the Starship ship in flight for safety reasons.
