The discontinued mediation at schools and the recycling centers were discussed at the Geretsried SPD's most recent town meeting.

Geretsried – “Disreputable things” – that was a topic at the SPD’s most recent town talk.

What was meant were the recycling centers in Geretsried.

Bernhard Lorenz, secretary of the local association, is not satisfied with the information available on the city's homepage.

The opening times of the recycling centers are not easy enough to find on the homepage.

These did not immediately appear either under the search term recycling center or under the term environment.

You can only get there after many clicks through different levels, Lorenz regretted, and this definitely has to change.

The opening times of the recycling centers should be easily accessible to everyone on the homepage.

Two equivalent recycling centers would be an advantage

In addition, there is a practical hurdle for citizens because the collection point on Jeschkenstrasse is only open three days a week.

In addition, in the worst case scenario, you have to “drive across the city if you want to drop off various things,” explained Lorenz.

This is often a big problem, especially for older or less mobile people. If there were two equivalent drop-off points that could accept all types of recyclables, this problem would be avoided.

“You have to make it as easy as possible for the citizens,” said Lorenz.

Demand for longer opening hours

Ultimately, we want to get people to recycle as much as possible.

This requires sufficient information: “What can I hand in when and where?” This is an everyday problem for many citizens, and “parties should also take care of these everyday problems”.

The goal must be to become a city with short distances in order to avoid traffic.

The SPD is therefore calling for longer opening times and better options for dropping off materials at the recycling center on Jeschkenstrasse so that you don't have to continue to "drive across the city".

“What are our children worth?” That was the second question that the comrades discussed.

The reason: In the current city budget, 12,000 euros are no longer available for mediation at three Geretsried schools, and the mediation cannot therefore continue.

Mediation is more important than ever, explained Bernhard Lorenz.

Because not all children are adequately taught values at home.

More and more conflicts in schools

In addition, the situation has worsened due to the pandemic and its consequences.

There are more and more conflicts in schools, mainly among students, but also with parents and teachers.

The students urgently need to learn how to deal with situations; for this they need support and guidance.

According to Lorenz, students who have conflicts often no longer keep up with school, often have psychological problems, develop eating disorders or begin to harm themselves.

Andreas Wagner – former member of the Left in the Bundestag, now a member of the SPD – declared it a “social task to get children back on the right path.

When we help children, we help society as a whole.” Therefore, mediation is not just a “nice to have” but an absolute must.

If the schools no longer had the money available, they would use other resources: excursions, specialist teaching measures or courses would then be canceled.

Reiner Berchtold, chairman of the Wolfratshausen Children and Youth Support Association, suggested contacting the Free State Ministry of Culture, which is primarily responsible.

Karl-Lederer-Platz: Green is missing

When asked about other topics, Runde took up the design of Karl-Lederer-Platz.

They agreed that the place looked gray and that too much concrete was visible.

This urgently needs to be improved with more greenery.

The next SPD city talk will take place on Sunday, April 7th at 10 a.m. in the Isarwinkel restaurant, with the topics of traffic, mobility and cycle path planning.
