The municipal utilities made a loss of around 2.6 million euros less than expected last year.

Germering – A planned loan was therefore not necessary.

The commercial manager of the municipal utilities, Irina Titze, reported this to the works committee.

The municipal utility company includes four business areas that differ fundamentally from an economic perspective: The waterworks and energy supply are considered self-sustaining and therefore do not require any subsidies from the city.

The indoor swimming pool and the leisure center (outdoor swimming pool and ice rink), on the other hand, are in loss and cannot survive without city funds.

Irina Titze pointed this out in her report on economic development in the second half of 2023.

The figures for the entire operation were good overall.

Instead of the around 6.6 estimated in the so-called success plan, which describes daily business, only a deficit of four million euros has to be made up.

Investments were also saved.

Instead of 3.5 million, only 1.2 million euros had to be spent.

According to the Titzes report, the reason for this can be found primarily in the energy supply sector: the implementation of the geothermal energy project, including an agreed feasibility study, has been delayed.

Waterworks

The waterworks sold around 1.9 million cubic meters of water last year, earning 1.6 million euros.

This corresponds to expectations.

On the one hand, savings were made because the expenses for so-called operating materials, including electricity costs, were 113,000 euros lower than expected.

The main thing that paid off was that a new water pump was purchased, which uses significantly less electricity than the old one.

As a result, around 55,000 euros less had to be spent here alone.

In terms of investments, however, there was an upward outlier.

The expansion of the Nebel/Landsberger Straße pipeline network was almost 130,000 euros more expensive than expected.

Reason: During the construction work, a traffic light with special programming had to be installed.

power supply

The energy supply division benefited last year from the fact that energy costs were significantly lower than forecast.

The purchase of gas to operate the power plant in the Germeringer Norden industrial area therefore had less of an impact.

In total, around 940,000 euros were saved.

Indoor swimming pool

The indoor swimming pool finally put the Corona period behind it last year and, according to Irina Titze, has returned to normal operation.

A total of almost 94,000 visitors were counted in 2023 - in 2022 there were 89,000. Sales revenue was around 55,000 euros above the planned value.

There were no major investments required for the indoor swimming pool.

Before the necessary renovation, a modernization concept is drawn up.

Leisure center

The leisure center's sales revenue was 165,000 euros above expectations.

This is mainly due to the outdoor swimming pool.

With 130,530 visitors, the highest number of visitors since 2015 was achieved.

For comparison: In 2022, only 123,000 guests came to the bathroom.

The polariom was also as popular as it was rare.

A total of 78,000 visitors were counted – in 2022 there were still 64,000.
