Turkey is the most popular travel destination for Germans for the summer of 2024 - despite high inflation.
But Spain also generates more revenue from travelers.
Where are German holidaymakers heading in the summer of 2024?
The
German Travel Association (DRV)
has a clear answer: Turkey - especially the region around Antalya - is the front runner when it comes to the most popular flight package travel destinations.
This is the result of evaluations by the market research institute
Travel Data + Analytics (TDA)
based on booking data from stationary travel agencies and online travel portals.
This means that Turkey has overtaken Spain as the most popular destination.
The country on the Bosphorus is particularly popular with families.
High inflation in Turkey does not deter German vacationers
Many Germans are booking a vacation in the sun for the 2024 summer vacation.

The data shows that Turkey can score points with holidaymakers despite high inflation.
In February, the inflation rate rose again to 67.07 percent, as
Wirtschaftswoche
reported.
Hotel accommodation and food are particularly affected.
In some regions, hotel prices would have risen by ten to 15 percent.
Prices in the catering industry have almost doubled compared to the previous year.
Nevertheless, vacationers in Turkey still seem comparatively cheap to travelers.
For one euro you get 34 lira - that's a record low for the Turkish currency, according to
Wirtschaftswoche
.
“The euro currently has high purchasing power in Turkey.
From the German perspective, this reduces Turkish inflation,” says Bernd Eisenstein, director of the German Institute for Tourism Research, according to the report.
The travel industry’s booking figures confirm this.

And according to the German Travel Association, Spain also remains very popular.
Although Turkey is considered the most booked travel destination, the country is recording a whopping 20 percent increase in sales.
Almost half of summer holiday bookings go to the popular Balearic island of Mallorca.
There is a growth of 29 percent in bookings.
In addition to other classics such as Greece, Portugal and Italy among the popular travel destinations, the United Arab Emirates continue to fight their way up - from 12th they moved up to ninth place when it comes to holiday bookings by Germans.
The Arab metropolis Dubai is also ranked as the best travel destination in
TripAdvisor
's Travellers' Choice Awards .

The booking data shows a slightly different picture compared to surveys presented by the
Foundation for Future Questions
in its most recent tourism analysis.
Accordingly, only around 3.5 percent of participants intended to spend their main vacation in Turkey in the next twelve months - which made it fourth place after Scandinavia.
The leader in this case was Spain with 8.4 percent.
Egypt triumphs during the Easter holidays
With a view to the upcoming Easter holidays, Egypt is the most popular travel destination for Germans.
As data from the travel search engine
Kayak
shows, flight prices there during the Easter holidays are 16 percent cheaper than last year.
This is followed by Antalya, Fuerteventura, Mallorca, Maldives, Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Dubai, Phuket and Lanzarote as the top travel destinations in terms of sales.
