This is the significant amount of the fine that the European Commission has just imposed on Apple for abuse of a dominant position.
The American giant (which appealed) is sanctioned for having hindered the development of its competitors in online music for ten years.
Once again
, Brussels has given in to its obsession with constantly regulating and sanctioning, the grumpy people will say.
Except this time, it was for good reason.
Firstly because this sanction hits an American company for the benefit of European companies (the Swedish Spotify, the French Deezer), demonstrating, for once, that a form of European protectionism is possible.
Then because the scale of the sum claimed from Apple is more than symbolic, even if the firm posts nearly 100 billion dollars in profits in 2023.
This fine is perhaps the prelude
to bringing the American digital giants (Apple, Google, Facebook, Amazon, etc.) into line…
