2024-03-09T11:38:02.051Z

Highlights: The new pricing of drinking water in Lyon will come into force on January 1, 2025. The bill will double for the most water-intensive households, above 180 m3. Some 16,000 subscribers are affected, or 5% of users. “We all have to make an effort, I’ve been doing it for a long time,” Maeva preaches with conviction. The first twelve cubic meters will be free for each household. Finally, a “water solidarity payment” will be offered to the most precarious households.

If the first twelve cubic meters consumed will be offered in 2025, the new pricing of drinking water will encourage households to close

“You might think that here, with the Rhône, we have an unlimited water resource.

But this is not the case !

» asserts Maeva.

This Lyonnaise is one of the residents who participated in seven workshops around the new solidarity and environmental pricing of drinking water unveiled by the metropolis of Lyon this Wednesday March 6.

It will come into force on January 1, 2025.

If the price per cubic meter is not yet known and will not be updated until June (currently 3.48 euros including tax), the elected officials of Greater Lyon wish to reduce drinking water consumption by 15% by 2035 (85 million m3 per year currently) have made strong choices.

Lucien, another resident who follows the subject closely, agrees: “Since the big droughts, people are becoming more and more aware.

A helping hand for the most precarious

The good news is that “the first twelve cubic meters will be free for each household,” announces Bruno Bernard, president of Greater Lyon.

This figure corresponds to a consumption of 30 liters of water per day, allowing a family of six to drink and cook for a year.

Finally, a “water solidarity payment” will be offered to the most precarious households, for a monthly amount estimated between 20 and 80 euros.

“It’s a good thing,” emphasizes Lucien.

But I can understand that free is debated.
