Kiel - Holstein Kiel is getting closer and closer to the first Bundesliga promotion in the club's history.
The second-placed team in the 2nd Bundesliga won 1-0 (0-0) against Karlsruher SC on Saturday and extended their lead over the relegation place to five points.
After several wasted chances, Lewis Holtby rewarded a strong Kiel performance with the opening goal in the 57th minute.
The former first division and England professional scored with a deflected long-range shot.
His team had previously missed significantly better opportunities thanks to Tom Rothe (3rd), Alexander Bernhardsson (10th/34th), Shuto Machino (46th/49th) and Timo Becker (47th).
After the two 4-0 wins against Kaiserslautern and Fürth, KSC also offered a convincing performance.
After the Kiel goal, the Karlsruhe team pushed hard for an equalizer.
Marvin Wanitzek (77th), Jerome Gondorf (86th) and Fabian Schleusener (88th) missed three great chances to make it 1-1.
The conclusion in front of 15,034 spectators: KSC played well, but Kiel played even better over the entire 90 minutes.
