For “fear of getting worse”: Cabaret artist Monika Gruber is retiring.

She is probably one of the most polarizing figures in the German comedy scene.

Munich/Erding – One last performance in Munich, but now it’s over: After Monika Gruber gave the finale of her “Without Words” tour in the Olympiahalle on Friday evening, March 8th, the cabaret artist is retiring – at least for the time being.

“They always say you have to stop when things are at their best.

This is now,” says the 52-year-old in the documentary “The Last Dance?” from

Servus TV

.

“I'm just afraid that I'll get worse.

And that at some point people will sit in the audience and say: 'Me, Gruberin, it used to be funnier'." Monika Gruber had already announced her retirement in 2021.

Cabaret artist from Erding polarized - criticism because of possible proximity to lateral thinkers

The cabaret artist from Erding is probably one of the most controversial people in the German comedy scene: During the corona pandemic, she attracted attention with her harsh criticism of the federal government's measures.

It was only in June last year that she made a political splash again because of her “Stop the heating ideology” demo in Erding.

Söder and Aiwanger also traveled to the rally against the new heating law, which was attended by more than 10,000 people.

Gruber came under criticism not only once because of her supposed proximity to the AfD and the lateral thinker scene.

The cabaret artist denies this: she would only say what “normal people” would think.

“Who tells it like it is?” fans said to her in response to her departure, she tells Servus TV.

However, Gruber does not consider a stage comeback to be completely out of the question.

If she hasn't found anything else in five years and her family tells her: "You're annoying us all" - then she could definitely imagine going back again.

But first of all, the performance in Munich meant for her: “Now it’s really la dernière danse,” the cabaret artist told Servus TV.
