The photovoltaic system on the school roof in Isen will be the founding project of Bürger-Energie Isental.

Isen

– The Bürger-Energie Isental association, which is not even a year old but now has 150 members, wants to soon become a cooperative.

For this he needs a start-up project: a photovoltaic system on the roof of the Isen school.

At the local council meeting, managing director Karsten Borgmann presented the plans, which the council unanimously approved.

“What the project could achieve is a saving for the community of around 1,500 euros in electricity costs per year,” Borgmann began his presentation.

This is supposed to happen with a very small self-consumption system with around 25 kWp.

According to Borgmann, an ideal solution for the school would actually be a “relatively complete coverage of the roof area with around 100 kilowatt peaks – but then with excess feed-in”.

But: “Our grid is suffering.” At the moment, the Haag power plants cannot enable feed-in.

A smaller zero-feed system is therefore realistic and economically viable.

Their size must be adjusted accordingly, “so that as much of what the system produces as possible is used by the school at that moment.”

Otherwise, according to Borgmann, you are throwing investment costs “in the trash”, which, by the way, are borne by Bürger-Energie (BE) Isental itself.

Only a small part of the roof is occupied.

This “quick solution,” as Borgmann called the self-consumption system, could be expanded in the long term “if the network expansion plans gain momentum in the next few years.”

The school currently uses around 90,000 kWh per year, which is purchased entirely from the Haag power plants at a cost of 37 cents.

In total it costs 33,000 euros this year, in 2022 it was 24,000.

With the photovoltaic system, the Isen market would only have to purchase 70,900 kWh at 37 cents from the Haag power plants.

The remaining 19,100 kWh would be generated on the roof.

BE Isental sells this green electricity to the market town for at least ten years at an electricity price that does not exceed 29 cents.

This results in savings of around 1,500 euros per year, which adds up to 15,000 euros over these ten years.

“Depending on how things are going, the price of electricity can be even lower,” said Borgmann, “but we guarantee that it will definitely not be higher.”

BE is not a company “that wants to squeeze out the last percent of returns, but we want to continue to work closely with the community.”

Second Mayor Michael Feuerer (CSU) wanted to know whether battery storage is planned so that less electricity is wasted.

That would make the project less economical, answered Borgmann, and his colleague Bernhard Gangkofer explained: “We compared the solar patterns and the school's consumption and calculated that the surpluses with this small system are so minimal that the storage is almost never full , and then it won’t be profitable.”

“You want to build the system, there are no costs for the community, and we would have secured electricity for 29 cents for ten years?

This is a guaranteed saving for us,” summarized Wolfgang Betz (FW).

“For legal reasons, the community would also receive a roof rental,” added Borgmann.

This is around 200 euros.

“I think it’s really nice that you chose the school.

A PV system belongs on public buildings,” said Manuela Maier (Greens).

“And the market couldn’t have afforded it.

It would be a shame to give it away.” All the other councilors were of the same opinion and agreed.

With the yes from the community, many more details can now be clarified, said club chairman Heiko Koxholt.

“Maybe we can get more than 25 kW peak allowed.” Charging stations for electric cars could also be planned at the teacher parking lot.

“And we as a cooperative also have the advantage that we are allowed to sell the electricity, which the community is not allowed to do.” In addition, everyone can participate in the cooperative, said Gangkofer: “This is the system for all of us.” And that’s what it’s supposed to be like also go quite quickly.

According to Borgmann, it could be functional by 2025.
