Sports Minister Andrea Abodi saidSaturday he is concerned about the situation of Italian SoccerFederation (FIGC) President Gabriele Gravina, who is underinvestigation in Rome for alleged self laundering, but thatcaution is needed and that it is important to avoid summarytrials.
Gravina's situation "worries me a lot, but I'm not going to say anything more", said Abodi.
"I'm used to speaking with the necessary caution. In the face of this matter, prudence and guarantees are needed.
"Most importantly, the judiciary will play its part.
I am also against people's courts and street trials,” he added.
Gravina met with investigators in Rome on Wednesday in relation to the alleged wrongdoing, which came out as part of a muchbroader case of snooping by a finance police officer into the secret information of public figures while he was deployed at the national anti-mafia prosecutor's office.
The alleged regard the process for the awarding of asoccer-related media contract in 2018, the sale of a collection of antique books that fell through and a Milan property acquisition, the sources said.
Gravina said the probe had been triggered by his formal request to speak to prosecutors about the reports, as this was a technical requirement for the meeting to take place.
"I had to get myself investigated in order to be able to defend myself from the creation of these files - falsehoods by someonewho has an anonymous veil," he said.
"I answered everything.
I asked for the truth to be ascertained.
"If there are responsibilities, I want to understand the names of the instigators as well as those who prepared the dossier," added the FIGC chief.
Abodi said Saturday he had spoken to Gravina.
"What is worrying is what has emerged from the reporting of this fact," he said.
