A motorist is missing in the Gard, after his car was caught in the floods while crossing a bridge on Saturday evening, while the South-East is being swept by bad weather, we learned from the firefighters.
Around 7:45 p.m., a car took a submerged bridge in Gagnières, a town in the north of Gard, on the edge of the Ardèche department, firefighters told AFP.
Two people were on board.
One of them, aged 42, managed to get out of the vehicle and took refuge in a tree, before being taken care of by firefighters.
The other, a 62-year-old man, is missing and whitewater rescue firefighters are actively continuing the search, Gard firefighters said.
The municipality had warned the population not to use this submersible bridge due to the current bad weather, linked to the Monica depression.
Seven departments in a large south-eastern quarter of the country are currently classified on orange rain-flood, wind or flood alert due to the very heavy rainfall linked to this depression.
In addition to Gard, vigilance concerns the Alpes-Maritimes, Ardèche, Haute-Loire, Loire, Lozère and Var.
