Highlights: Finally space in the million-dollar building: Weidach fire department is happy about its modern home. There is currently room for 30 firefighters in the new hall, which has a light look throughout. There's a large classroom on the upper floor of the new building - it is much more practical than its predecessor in the old building. “If there are more, that’s okay, that is okay,” says Christian Lambl, deputy commander of the fire department.

The fire station in Weidach was extensively expanded.

The volunteers finally have space in the 2.6 million building - still.

Wolfratshausen – There is still space.

Christian Lambl knows the phenomenon.

There used to be space in the old house.

Massively so.

Some people found it “luxurious” when the military moved in in 1996.

You don't hear that description anymore.

The fire station in Weidach was called “cramped” instead.

And small.

And overloaded.

That's why the fire department's equipment building has been extensively expanded over the past two years.

The construction work has now been largely completed.

The city spent 2.6 million euros on the expansion.

At the moment, the pretty extension still seems quite airy in some places - especially if you know the cramped conditions from before.

Finally space in the million-dollar building: Weidach fire department is happy about its modern home

“We had no storage space at all in the old building,” says the commander of the Weidach weir and project planner for the expansion, Robert Buxbaum, in the new, second vehicle hall.

The result: Every free square meter was filled with protective equipment, material, trailers and club inventory.

Directly behind the exhaust pipe of the emergency vehicles, the volunteers changed their clothes at their full lockers.

They then made their way into the cars between trailers and drying wetsuits.

“Somehow everything worked,” says Buxbaum, but actually it was no longer a tolerable situation for a long time.

Something is missing: Another vehicle has already been planned for the Weidach weir.

There is already a parking space in the new vehicle hall.

2.6 million euros for a changing room, garage and much more: Weidach fire department has a new home

The conditions are now clear on Weidacher Hauptstrasse: The vehicles have enough space in the two halls - one parking space is currently still free until the new car that was bought for the armed forces arrives.

The lockers can now be found in separate changing rooms.

Only the lockers with the wetsuits are left in the old vehicle hall.

The new hall is still quite empty.

“We know what it is like: the demands on the fire departments are growing - our equipment is becoming more and more extensive.

“It won’t stay that way for long,” says Lambl.

Weidachers pitched in: firefighters worked on building the equipment shed

The deputy commander of the Weidach volunteers, together with some of his colleagues, put a lot of personal effort into the cultivation.

He doesn't want to make a big deal out of the voluntary construction work.

Commander Buxbaum also says that in smaller communities, clubs and military forces even demand help and accommodation as a condition.

In Wolfratshausen, however, the high proportion of construction work carried out by the company itself is a rarity.

“We are proud that so many of our comrades worked together,” says Buxbaum.

Teaching hall for fire brigades with a roof terrace - some people call it luxury

There is a large classroom on the upper floor of the new building - it is much more practical than its predecessor in the old building.

“There's a large sloping roof, the projector stands on some folders and projects onto the bare wall,” says Lambl.

There is currently room for 30 firefighters in the new hall, which has a light wood look throughout.

“If there are more, that’s okay,” says Lambl.

The screen is attached directly and can be extended if necessary.

The projector is permanently installed on the ceiling.

There is also a small roof balcony with a nice view of the green meadow and residential area.

Buxbaum explains: “During longer exercises or training courses, it makes sense to get out for a moment and get some air.” The volunteers from the fire department are responsible for designing the terrace themselves.

Fire department in Weidach: “Construction has a promising future”

A new office for commander, club board and administrative work is being built opposite.

There is still only a large, black table without a top.

The inner workings of the fire station only emerge over time, as you can easily see when taking a tour.

Lambl and Buxbaum have no doubt that it will fill up and that the storage space will be used sensibly.

From experience.

Strictly speaking, you can only recognize the current office in the old building by the “office” inscription on the door.

There are boots and boxes inside.

Tactical vests, jackets and laundry baskets lie on the desk next to documents.

The lack of storage space in the 1990s fire station is obvious.

“The new building has a promising future,” says Buxbaum with satisfaction.

This is of course due to the modern rooms including freight elevators in the garage, large information flat screens in the changing room and vehicle hall and the chic, fresh look.

Even the mere existence of a cellar gives the commander so much optimism: “We finally have storage options,” he says, opening one of the heavy, black doors in the cellar and showing the room in which currently only a few thick, yellow hoses are stored, which are to be filled with equipment and materials in the near future.

Enough space for everyone: 44 men change in the large changing room - the women of the armed forces have their own, just like the youth.

Long construction site: Concrete faux pass caused a delay

The construction took about two years.

A serious breakdown caused delays: something went wrong during concrete work on the basement ceiling of the extension: neither the statics nor the lifespan of the floor were sufficient.

The company responsible had to make improvements - that took weeks.

“We didn’t have a fixed date by which everything had to be finished,” says Buxbaum.

“That benefited us.” At some points during the tour, the commander reflects.

“We didn’t build or do anything that wasn’t necessary.” But the fire department’s wishes were fulfilled – “that’s an appreciation that the city shows us.

I know that in many municipalities we have to fight for every single parking space.” The Weidach extension was quieter.

“It’s actually a luxury.”

There are still construction fences on the property at the intersection of Mühlpointweg and Weidacher Hauptstrasse.

This is due to the redesign of the playground.

A few square meters were cut off because they are needed as access for the rescuers, who will in future park underground in the back of the building.

The adjacent playground is currently being modernized.

Thanks to a stylish fire department playground, the renovated area fits well into the neighborhood.
