Emergency landing and delivery on board a Wizzair airline plane during the night in Brindisi, where a baby girl was born shortly after 2am. The woman, in her seventh month of pregnancy, was on the Amman-London flight when she felt strong pain and required the activation of emergency procedures.
Hence the decision to land in Brindisi.
An ambulance was already present on the runway.
When the doctors arrived, however, the woman had already given birth assisted by company staff.
Mother and daughter were then taken to hospital.
The plane, with a total of 235 passengers on board, left in the afternoon.
The woman and the child are hospitalized in the obstetrics and gynecology department of the Perrino hospital in Brindisi and are in good condition.
"Life - comments the general director of the ASL Brindisi, Maurizio De Nuccio - wins in every circumstance. At least it tries. Always. The instinct for survival is so rooted in the human being that, wherever he is - earth, sky or sea - life will put a strain on adverse events, whatever they may be. This time the skies of Brindisi were the scene of a strong desire to come into the world".
