A river of mud swept through streets in Naples after heavy rainfall on Saturday, flooding basements and properties on ground floor level.
The affected streets were Via Solimena and Via Morghen in the hilly Vomero district.
Via Morghen is the street where a huge sinkhole opened up on February 21, swallowing a tree and two cars including one moving vehicle with two young men inside.
Both survived.
On that occasion Naples Mayor Gaetano Manfredi said the problems that the southern city has "a sewer system that has not had maintenance for many years.
"We are implementing a project for the continuous monitoring of the sewer-and-water network and this will allow us to carry outpreventive maintenance," he added.
