A tight negotiation, which has not yet closed.
The Pd and Five Star Movement continue to push to find the name to field to challenge the outgoing governor Vito Bardi (Forza Italia) in the regional elections scheduled in Basilicata on 21 and 22 April.
In truth, the Dems and the Pentastellati would have liked to put an end to the election campaign in Abruzzo before the end, but they were unable to make Angelo Chiorazzo, the candidate indicated by the Basilicata Casa Comune civic movement, formalize the "step aside" .
The entrepreneur - who met the secretary of the Democratic Party, Elly Schlein, and the president of the M5S, Giuseppe Conte in Rome - resists: "I am and will remain in the field".
But in the broad field the feeling is that Chiorazzo - supported by the Lucanian Democratic Party, but always disliked by the Five Star Movement - could still renounce his candidacy, provided however that he himself indicates another name (rumors concern the economic manager Giampiero Maruggi, among the best-known "faces" of Basilicata Casa Comune and the former undersecretary and parliamentarian Giampaolo D'Andrea, with a long DC and PD past).
In the event of Chiorazzo's resignation (who at that point would lead a list in support of the gubernatorial candidate of the wide field), however, we could turn to another hypothesis, hoped for by many: a woman, like the dem senator Cecilia D'Elia, Potentina by birth.
The film of a hectic day therefore began early in the morning, with Chiorazzo's meetings with the Democratic secretary and with Conte.
"We are working - the former prime minister said from Abruzzo - for Basilicata, we are working on a credible candidacy, representative of everyone and all civic forces".
No official statement from Schlein, but the Nazarene's position has been evident for days now: not to support Chiorazzo and convince him to withdraw, also going against the decision of the Lucanian dems, who, last Saturday, at the end of a heated meeting of the regional management, they had reiterated the approval, already expressed in October, on the founder of the Auxilium cooperative.
For several hours, rumors suggested an immediate turning point.
Instead, Chiorazzo, with two notes sent to the press shortly afterwards, confirmed his desire to move forward.
The first press release concerned 8 March, with the announcement of a political initiative by Basilicata Casa Comune for 12 March.
The second is a denial about the withdrawal of the candidacy: "A cordial and open dialogue is underway with the Democratic Party and the M5S" but "I am and remain in the field. Our electoral campaign continues. At the same time - he underlined - I am doing everything possible, continuing the discussion already started with all the political forces, to make the alternative camp stronger".
The PD organization manager, Igor Taruffi, and the PD local authorities manager, Davide Baruffi, spoke about "positive discussions to arrive at a unitary solution" in the evening.
For the M5S, however, "a further step is needed for the unitary candidacy".
And so, two weeks after the presentation of the lists (22 and 23 March), other names still remain in the background, such as those of the public manager Lorenzo Bochicchio (former general director of the Potenza local health authority), Rocco Paternò (president of 'Provincial Order of Doctors of Potenza) and the president of the Province of Matera, the dem Piero Marrese.
