Uschi Glas has no problem sparking discussions from time to time.

Your appearance at “Kölner Treff” is no exception.

After a discriminatory statement, the moderator must intervene.

Cologne – The “Kölner Treff” is entering the next round.

On March 9, 2024, Susan Link (46) and Micky Beisenherz (46) again welcomed great guests: including comedienne Meltem Kaptan (43), Anna Schudt (49), Amira Pocher (31) and acting icon Uschi Glas (80 ).

The latter spoke, among other things, about her 80th birthday, her beginnings in film and her childhood.

She uses a term that causes nervous laughter in the studio.

Moderator Micky Beisenherz has to intervene.

Wrong religion, wrong hair color, wrong complexion: Uschi Glas was insulted as a child

Uschi Glas is the grande dame of German film.

She has been in front of the camera since 1965.

Now - on her 80th birthday - she looks back on her career and her life and makes it clear: she was never a sweetheart.

That's also the name of her new book.

Even though back in the 50s and 60s it wasn't considered chic to contradict women, she still did it.

So Uschi Glas doesn't mind getting offended every now and then.

This also becomes clear in the new episode of “Kölner Treff”.

Uschi Glas talks about her childhood, which was not easy as a Protestant in a Lower Bavarian village.

In addition, she had black hair and a brown complexion at the time.

At that time she was insulted because of it.

“Then I was just the Protestant Negro from Lower Bavaria,” says Uschi Glas.

Silence.

Nervous laughter.

The audience in the background exchanges looks.

Why

IPPEN.MEDIA

uses the controversial term “Negro”: We decided to use the “N-word,” which is perceived as discriminatory, in order to make the text understandable for everyone, including those who are concerned with the issue surrounding the term have not discussed.

Is the N-word racist?

Yes, it is.

“Because behind this word there are 400 years of enslavement.

Because White people have used this word to dehumanize Black people globally.

Because this word is a sign of white supremacy,” says Daniel Gyamerah, board member of Each One Teach One (EOTO) e.

V. to the Federal Ministry for Family, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth.

The “N-word” was already used at the end of the 18th century as a derogatory term “with a hurtful character,” informs the Federal Agency for Political Education.

The N-word was “strategically used to implement feelings of loss, inferiority and submission to white colonial rule,” it continues.

Uschi Glas causes a stir with the N-word – “Kölner Treff” presenter Micky Beisenherz has to interrupt

Moderator Micky Beisenherz tries to save the situation and interrupts the interview: “You can see from the reaction that fortunately we use different terms today.”

At least Uschi Glas is insightful: “I know that you can’t say that anymore, but…”.

Before the actress can say anything else problematic, the moderator interrupts her.

“Let’s put this in the temporal context.

“It was even shittier back then than it is today,” explains Micky Beisenherz, trying to steer the conversation in a different direction and promptly asking Uschi Glas a different question.

Fellow actor Ben Becker also seems to have problems with so-called “political correctness”.

Ben Becker also used a discriminatory term, also at the “Kölner Treff”, also in an interview with Micky Beisenherz.
