The Weilheim State Building Authority has wanted to renew the Würm Bridge on the B 2 near Percha for several years.

Even though warning signs have recently been pointing out road damage, it will probably take at least 2027 before work gets started.

Percha/Starnberg

– The fact that the Würm Bridge on the B 2 near Percha needs to be renewed is not new.

Back in 2016, the Weilheim State Building Authority started a project with the aim of replacing the current 30 meter wide bridge from 1964.

Nothing has really happened since then.

The Starnberger Merkur asked building councilor Karl Kergl, head of the structural engineering department, in Weilheim about the status of the planning and when a new building can be expected.

  • What is the current status of the planning?

The plans are still in the design phase.

The aim is to complete the technical planning in 2024 and then move on to approval planning.

The latter is necessary due to the impact on private property and water law and nature conservation issues.

  • When can implementation be expected?

If everything goes smoothly, implementation can be expected from 2027.

However, we are dependent on third parties and objections from those affected during the approval process, which may lead to delays.

  • Will there be a temporary bridge for two lanes in each direction or another solution?

According to the current planning status, all four lanes will be maintained for traffic during the construction project.

A temporary bridge is not necessary for road traffic, as the existing width of the existing structure makes it possible to demolish half of the existing structure while maintaining traffic and to rebuild it using separate bridge superstructures in each direction of travel.

A temporary bridge will only have to be built in the direction of Lake Starnberg for the lakeside walking and cycling path.

  • Warning signs about road damage have recently been posted after the bridge.

It feels like an edge has formed on the west side of the bridge.

Is this impression deceptive or has the bridge sagged again?

    This finding is well known.

It turns out that the existing structure is experiencing further ground settlement in the low-load-bearing subsoil.

This is another reason why a timely renewal is necessary.

  • How do the water levels of Lake Starnberg and the Würm affect the foundations?

The water level does not have a direct impact on the foundations or static design of the foundation.

The settlements on the existing structure are not caused by the water level, but are due to the inadequate foundation foundation in connection with the low load-bearing subsoil including sea clay.

We have sufficient records of the water levels of the lake and the Würm.

The range of fluctuations between high and low levels can therefore be limited very precisely.

In addition, due to its size, the level of Lake Starnberg is very sluggish compared to a normal river, and changes require a lot of lead time.

Regardless of this, the flow of the Würm must be guaranteed during the construction period.

In order to create the foundations, boundaries for the excavation pit, for example sheet pile walls, are required compared to the Würm.
