Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès
, the father of the family, is the main suspect in this affair.
He was last seen on April 15, 2011 in Roquebrune-sur-Argens, in the Var, and has not been found since.

published by Harper Collins, Christine Dupont de Ligonnès and Bertram de Verdun were Léa Salamé's guests on Saturday evening in “What a time!”
on France 2. The younger sister of Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès and her husband are convinced of his innocence.

On April 11, 2011, several days after the family's assassination, Christine Dupont de Ligonnès received a letter of several pages from her brother in which he explained that they had to leave hastily for the United States.
“In this letter, Xavier clearly tells me that, roughly speaking, he has been doing intelligence for things that were wrong in his life, that I couldn't explain
,” she declared.
Christine Dupont de Ligonnès is convinced that her brother did not kill his family and that the discovery of the five bodies is
“a set-up”
, that people
“participated in this scenario”
and that the police were
“accomplices in 'an exfiltration'
.
“I don’t know anything about the principles of exfiltration.
I believe in my brother, I spoke to him on the phone very recently, he didn't have the voice of an assassin at all, I still know how he works..."
, she added, specifying that she did not to think
“that another family was killed instead”
of Agnès and the four children.
“I understand very well that one could find this totally far-fetched but ultimately it is a hypothesis which has been swept aside but the arguments put to me do not have that much weight.
[...] Obviously, I do not pretend to understand everything, to know everything, there will always be gray areas, I do not impose anything on anyone, I expose my views, however far-fetched they may seem
. she said.

By writing this book and testifying in “What a time!”, Christine Dupont de Ligonnès wants to
“restore the true face”
of her brother.
If she is certain that he is not in the United States as he claimed in his letter, she is nevertheless convinced that Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès is alive and that he is not hiding in France.
“I really don’t think he’s in France.
[...] We have no reason to believe he committed suicide.”
She also felt that it does not leak.
“We would have to come and prove the opposite to me because the file is also full of strange things
,” she stressed.
Christine Dupont de Ligonnès also wanted to refute
“fraternal or familial blindness”
