There was a lot to discuss at the annual meeting of the Ellbach Volunteer Fire Department.

The good news: the injured chainsaw operator has recovered.

Ellbach - The Ellbach fire brigade's operational record for 2023 once again showed the now familiar requirements: once the Floriansjüngers had to respond to a fire, but technical assistance was required eight times.

Traffic safety was also required on five different occasions.

In addition, at their annual meeting in the “Schützenwirt” the team looked back on many larger and smaller events in both the official and social areas.

Dramatic use in June

What will certainly be remembered is an alarm in June when the fire department was called to remove a tree hanging over State Road 2368.

When the tree was sawing under tension, it swerved, as Commander Thomas Jaud described, hitting the chainsaw operator in the head and shoulder and causing him to fall to the ground unconscious.

Jaud emphasized that the reaction of his comrades on site was exemplary.

“The incident was processed precisely, from initial medical care to the alerting of a helicopter and also the request for psychosocial emergency care for the stressed emergency services.

I would like to thank everyone involved again.” The injured man has recovered and is back in action.

A total of 222 working hours were recorded last year, most of which were outside of daily working hours.

During the day, it is not always easy to find sufficient emergency personnel due to the fact that work is often carried out outside of the city.

Jaud's appeal to those active: “Don't rely on others being there.

If there is an alarm, move out immediately.”

Discussion about alerts

One request to speak referred to the recurring and ultimately unnecessary alarms about trees or branches lying on the road.

“When you get to the place mentioned, there is nothing there or the obstacle has already been removed.” Is there a better way to filter out such useless missions and burdens for the relief workers?

District fire chief Thomas Fuchsgruber pointed out that every such emergency report depends on the assessment of the respective detector and the dispatcher in the integrated control center.

If the importance is in question, it is already common practice to have a person check first and then alert the team.

In order to be able to deal with the diverse challenges, the team, which currently consists of 40 active members, completed a comprehensive exercise program last year.

There were special units for those wearing breathing apparatus as well as for the youth group.

The latter includes five girls and four boys.

For this spring and possibly the summer, youth leader Stefan Gerg is again aiming to hold a final exam for the “Modular Troopman Training”.

Active in village life

At the same time, a crane was installed in the storage area of the equipment house as planned to help with the storage of equipment.

The fire brigade was also represented in village life with various activities, as board member Peter Bonleitner reported.

Commander Thomas Jaud and a few young people also took part in the 1st Bavarian Fire Brigade Ski Championship on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the state fire brigade association and brought home good placings.

Jaud: “If there is a new edition, then we will take part again.” (rb)
