Kidnapped while leaving school and abused by two strangers.
It is the story that allegedly saw a 12-year-old girl in Verona as the victim, and which now sees two Indian citizens aged 37 and 47 in prison, accused of a crime, but who say they are innocent.
It will be up to the investigating judge, during the interrogation, to validate the strong suspicions about the two men (in Italy for about six months, without a fixed abode) which are based for the moment on the story of the Italian teenager.
The events date back to last Thursday, in a neighborhood in the Verona hinterland.
Upon leaving school, in the early afternoon, the girl was apparently approached by the two strangers, grabbed by force and dragged to a corner of a secondary road, a few hundred meters from the school, near a public park.
Here, amidst the victim's screams, they allegedly abused her, sexually harassing her.
The student fought with all her strength, she asked for help, and in a moment of distraction from the couple she managed to escape.
In the meantime, having heard the screams of her daughter, her mother also arrived at her place, but when the two men had already fled.
The Carabinieri of the Verona investigative unit, based on the descriptions, managed to stop the immigrant couple shortly afterwards.
Who now, from prison, say they are innocent.
But in the protected hearing of the student, prosecutor Valeria Ardito believed that there were elements to validate the arrest of a crime suspect carried out by the Carabinieri.
And the two ended up in prison.
It will be the investigating judge of the Court of Verona Carola Musio who will evaluate whether the version of the two suspects holds up or not, in the face of the description of the facts collected in the complaint by the girl's mother.
Through their lawyer, the two foreigners instead claim that everything was the result of "a misunderstanding".
Originally from India, the two men are regulars in Italy.
They have no fixed abode, and would work (probably illegally) in the agricultural sector in the province of Verona.
The charges they have to defend themselves against are serious: sexual assault and kidnapping, aggravated by having been committed against a minor.
Investigators could also make use of the images from security cameras in the area.
