The yet-to-be-founded association that wants to save the Tutzinger cinema has gained its first members and received pledges of donations.

Also thanks to professional preparation.

It should be clear by the end of April whether the 70-year-old spa theater will survive.

It all depends on how many citizens get involved.

Tutzing - The Tutzinger cinema hasn't been this full for a long time and usually only for Eberhofer crime novels or Hollywood blockbusters: The 124 people who fell into the purple armchairs of the time-honored Kurtheater on Thursday evening got free popcorn, but none Not to see a film – but to present a concept.

A concept that is supposed to save the cinema.

After closing at the end of the year, the house on Kirchenstrasse is scheduled to reopen as a community cinema in the fall.

If there are enough members and donors and the starting capital of 80,000 euros is raised by the end of April.

Main initiator Lucie Vorlickova, known from the Tutzinger Liste citizens' association, exuded confidence on Thursday and received a lot of praise for the professional preparation of the necessary foundation of the association, which is planned for May.

After her presentation, several people from the audience agreed to actively help run the cinema - whether selling tickets and drinks, cleaning or acting as social media representatives.

The newly set up cinema barometer on the homepage had 21 designated members on Friday, and 7,800 euros in donations have already been promised.

Even if there is still a long way to go: the cinema rescue mission has had a dream start.

The emotional connection of some Tutzingers could ultimately be the deciding factor.

Alexander Nechayev, who hosted the evening with Vorlickova, said: “I was here for the first time in 1975 and saw Robber Hotzenplotz.

I would be so happy if this room lived on.” He had previously promised those present: “The project has been thoroughly thought out, it’s not just a pipe dream.”

Dummy cameras for the membership declarations were set up in the cinema.

Lucie Vorlickova, a former tax advisor who is experienced in arithmetic, presented her calculations transparently.

It would be utopian to finance the operation from entrance fees alone; that would require more than 1,000 visitors per month.

More than unlikely.

In the whole of 2019 there were around 5,800. Vorlickova expected this and came up with a coverage gap that needed to be closed through (supporting) membership fees.

In theory this means, for example: If 250 people pay the minimum annual contribution of 30 euros, 60 people pay the standard contribution of 120 euros and 30 pay the promotional contribution of 600 euros, things will work out well.

It is still pending whether certain old, still functioning equipment in the cinema could be auctioned “from the insolvency assets” of the previous company, explained Vorlickova.

Hiring a theater manager for 20 hours a week is essential.

“We are in negotiations with two people and have a favorite.

“But they are employed and can only quit when we can offer them security,” explained the initiator when asked by the audience.

A professional service provider with connections to distributors should take care of the cinema program.

However, the members should also have a say, for example setting up a film club is conceivable.

“Nothing is cast in cement.

We are totally open,” emphasized Nechayev.

This also applies to filling board positions in the association.

The Tutzinger Kurtheater will soon be more than a cinema

The Kurtheater will soon be more than a cinema; small ensembles, music bands, cabaret artists or authors could perform there.

To do this, the first row of seats would have to be removed and the stage would have to be enlarged.

It is also important to provide kindergartens and school classes from the area with shared film experiences again.

The main thing is to maintain a meeting place, emphasized Vorlickova.

Elisabeth Dörrenberg, the community's cultural officer, who, given the budget situation, can contribute little or nothing financially to the project, said looking at the full hall: “That's encouraging.

Tutzing needs this civic engagement.

This is the model of the future.”
