"This morning, when I went to collect my ballot, I felt a great and strange emotion, as if for the first time my voice and my thoughts were taken seriously. I felt taken into consideration and lucky."
These are the words with which Alice P., who turned 18 on February 25, told ANSA her feelings on the day when, for the first time, on the occasion of the regional elections in Abruzzo, she entered a voting booth.
"It's just been two weeks since my 18th birthday and all the people who wished me happy birthday asked me 'how does it feel now?'
The truth is that I still haven't been able to realize the fact that I have reached adulthood, at least until today - she says - I felt an incredible desire to express my opinion and while I was voting the words that rang in my head were of gratitude towards all the people who have fought over the years so that each of us, Italian citizens, could have this right. But my greatest thought was aimed at all the women who allowed me too to participate in the elections today and this, also if only for a second, it made me feel like a woman for the first time. I don't believe that a number reflects the true maturity of a person, and in truth I still can't say how it feels, but today - concludes Alice - I really believe I having taken a small step towards adulthood."
