Hohenpeißenberg mourns the loss of its former second mayor Georg Führer, who died at the age of 82.

Hohenpeißenberg

- If everything had gone according to plan, Georg Führer would have received the Bavarian Prime Minister's Badge of Honor for his special services in volunteer work in March in the Kaisersaal of the Munich Residence by Markus Söder, but the then 81-year-old was at the time of the award sick.

The ceremonial award was held at the local council meeting in May.

Afterwards, Georg Führer stayed and listened to what the committee, of which he was a member for 30 years - 22 years as second mayor - had to discuss.

He visibly felt comfortable in the group and only went home when the public meeting was over - to the Hohen Peißenberg to the farm that he had taken over from his father in 1968 and where he has been working as a farmer since 2005 lived.

“Georg Führer was a person who absolutely shaped the townscape.

We simply miss him,” says Mayor Thomas Dorsch about the deceased: “He was a person you could rely on one hundred percent.

I learned a lot from him.” What made Georg Führer so human was his personality.

“He was always helpful, always friendly and warm-hearted,” says son Hannes Führer about his father.

The friendly nature, the willingness to help and the willingness to use his energy for the community have also benefited the community of Hohenpeißenberg and its associations: In addition to his local political activity, Georg Führer was also involved in the Leonhardi Association - here he was chairman and saved him from dissolution - on the parish council, of which he was a member for 40 years and was chairman of the supervisory board of the Oberschwaig dairy cooperative for 32 years.

Family played a big role in Führer's life

Hannes Führer says his father was always aware that his voluntary work was only possible because his family supported him.

The father was particularly grateful to his mother Maria throughout his life because, as a farmer, she took on some of the farmer's tasks when he was away doing his voluntary work again.

The family - Maria and Georg Führer have four children and eight grandchildren - played a big role in his father's life, says son Hannes Führer, who took over the farm, which was first mentioned in the 15th century, from his father.

His father Georg and his mother Maria had a close connection with each other.

When Maria Führer died in October last year, it was a great loss for Georg Führer, says Hannes Führer, who, together with his wife Viola, had taken intensive care of his father over the past few months.

So, despite his increasing frailty, he was able to stay up on the Hoher Peißenberg, from where he didn't even want to leave for a vacation.

“All I have to do is look out the window and then I have the whole world in front of me,” his mother always said, says Hannes Führer.

Georg Führer found his final resting place yesterday at the top of the mountain.
