Around 80 guests recently came together for a ceremony at the Gasthof Geiger to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the CSU local association.

Geretsried - Honorary member Edmund Stoiber particularly emphasized the party's integrative and economic achievements.

“Geretsried has adopted a high level of integration,” praised Stoiber.

This is also a credit to the local association founded in 1954, whose history Mayor Michael Müller summarized in a 91-page commemorative publication.

In the 1950s, the first CSU local chairman Waldemar Kölling and the founding members still had to deal with the bloc of expellees and disenfranchised people (BHE), which made up the majority in the local council.

The Christian Socialists later gained significant influence under the leadership of the following chairmen, Horst Dzewas and Helmut Gänßbauer.

In 1986, Gerhard Hasreiter, the first CSU candidate, won the mayoral election campaign.

The local association currently has the most city councilors and, for ten years, also the first mayor, Michael Müller.

“Of course we also had our trials and tribulations.

But that’s part of the political game of power,” the town hall boss admitted in his speech.

For him, the 70th anniversary is still an opportunity to move into the future with courage and to remain the creative force in the city.

Geretsried: Clear position against right-wing extremism

Edmund Stoiber previously took a clear position against the right-wing extremism of the AfD.

“They have no place here because they endanger the unity of Europe,” said the former Bavarian Prime Minister.

He also regretted that he had underestimated Russian President Vladimir Putin's lust for power.

“I met him at least twelve times and have rarely been so mistaken about a person,” admitted Stoiber.

At the end of the ceremony, which was accompanied by brass music, Third Mayor Gerhard Meinl presented him with a book by Loriot and a voucher for a city tour through the center of Geretsried.

Angelika Geiger from the inn of the same name received a bouquet of flowers from the current CSU local chairman Martin Huber because the business is still the venue for the CSU get-togethers that take place once a month.
