The weapon of Nahal Brigadier General Yonathan Steinberg, who was killed in an encounter with terrorists on October 7, was found during an IDF operation in the heart of Khan Yunis.
The weapon was found along with items belonging to abductees and missing persons in the neighborhood of Hamed State, the prestigious Qatari neighborhood in the center of the city.
The activity in the area was led by the commando brigade, which continues to operate there to exhaust the search for senior Hamas officials and Israeli prisoners and missing people.

Col. Steinberg was 43 years old in Nefolu, a resident of Kibbutz Shumaria, from where he left on October 7 to join the fighting alongside his subordinates in Kerem Shalom. On his way to the scene, he encountered terrorists and was killed during the exchange of fire. A day later he was laid to rest in the military section of Mount Herzl Cemetery in Jerusalem
During Operation "Guardian of the Walls" Steinberg served as Brigadier Benjamin, where he fought in a firefight against a number of armed men who fired at the forces of the brigade and the forces of the Kafir Brigade near the Ayush square in Ramallah
