On the occasion of the big World Tourist Guide Day on March 10th, the Dachauer Nachrichten spoke with Brigitte Fiedler, chairwoman of the Dachau Tourist Guide Association.

Fiedler explains why it is so nice to show people through Dachau.

Dachau

– The Dachau Tourist Guides Association was founded 20 years ago.

Of the 32 members, 20 guide the many tourists from home and abroad, but also from Dachau, through the city.

They show you the old town, the artists' path, the district museum, the Hofgarten and of course the concentration camp memorial.

On the occasion of “World Guest Guide Day 2024” this Sunday, March 10th, the Dachauer Nachrichten spoke to Brigitte Fiedler (67), the chairwoman of the association, who has been there since the beginning.

She had previously gained experience as a tour guide at the concentration camp memorial and the district museum.

She still does tours in the museum today.

Ms. Friedler, how long have you been a guest guide and why did you join the club back then?

Brigitte Fiedler: The training was offered by the city and the adult education center.

In addition to the topics of the concentration camp and the district museum, I wanted to have another topic.

I wanted to illuminate Dachau from all sides, the 1200 years.

In addition, you are legally protected in the club and have further training opportunities.

I have also always been interested in history.

During the first few tours I realized that it was absolutely mine.

People are always surprised - even people from Dachau - at how much Dachau has to offer.

Do you have a favorite place in Dachau?

As a native of Dachau, this is the old town for me.

Especially the Hofgarten, in all seasons.

You're immediately away from everyday life and traffic.

I also really enjoy being at the wind turbine in Etzenhausen.

It's like local recreation.

How many kilometers do you cover on your tours per year?

My news

  • Dachau city council says yes to the new mobility statutes

  • Hearing at the Dachau District Court: New marijuana law unsettles legal experts

  • Discussion about vacancies in the Zieglerbräu: No money, no plan and lots of defects

I've never calculated that before.

I don't have a pedometer either.

But with all the paths through the old town, along the artists' path and in the large memorial, a lot comes together every year.

In addition to walking, I also keep fit in a women's fitness studio and do a lot to build my muscles.
