On the eve of the European elections, the rise of the far right in the European Union is likely to continue.
Spared until then, Portugal must face the rise in power of the Chega party during early legislative elections which are being held this Sunday, March 10.
The socialists, in power since 2015, could be dethroned by the center-right opposition, itself threatened by the populist wave.
The movement founded in 2019 by André Ventura, who embodies a nationalist and ultraconservative line, could achieve a new breakthrough and confirm its status as the third political force in the country, by doubling the score of 7.2% obtained in the previous legislative elections.
