The investments in the new nursing home building demand a lot from the community of Lenggries.

This now also became apparent during the budget consultation.

Lenggries – It was clear from the start: the new construction of the Lenggries nursing home is also a financial feat for the Brauneck community.

At the same time, since the general conditions are not necessarily the best, treasurer Michael Wenig requires a lot of skill when setting up the budget.

The main committee dealt with the draft on Monday.

“The red pencil has been extensively applied” in many areas

“We have a few things planned again,” said Mayor Stefan Klaffenbacher (FWG) at the introduction.

However, the focus is primarily on the existing construction sites.

This year, for example, 9 million euros in construction and planning services are being invested in the construction of nursing homes.

The second construction phase of the town center renovation costs 1.7 million euros.

To ensure that the burden on municipal coffers does not become too high, “the red pencil has been applied extensively” in many areas, says Klaffenbacher.

Debt levels double, reserves dwindle

Nevertheless, a large amount of borrowing is planned during the year.

The debt level will more than double as a result.

At the same time, reserves are dwindling.

Anyone who takes out loans now has to expect significant interest charges again.

At least here the community still has a bit of a breather this year.

The loan that the district grants to the community is interest-free for 30 years.

The bank loans are not scheduled to be repaid until next year - and hopefully the first rental income will then flow through Caritas, which will operate the nursing home.

That's good, because from 2025 onwards "a larger interest and repayment burden can be expected," said Wenig.

Less money is left from current income for investments

And then the community will have to calculate very precisely, because there must be enough money left over from the current income to at least be able to service the debt.

This year, this so-called addition to the asset budget - which primarily includes investments - is "very low, and in the first draft it was even lower until we put the red pencil on it," said Klaffenbacher.

In the past two years the addition was around 3.5 million euros, this year just around 856,000 euros.

This is how much remains if you deduct the current expenses of the municipality such as personnel costs, operation and maintenance of municipal facilities as well as the levy to the district from the current income such as taxes, fees and key state allocations.

Income situation should be improved

With this in mind, the municipality also wants to improve the revenue situation and is tweaking the property tax rate and kindergarten fees (we reported).

It has also already been decided to increase the entrance fees for the outdoor pool and the Isarwelle.

In the indoor swimming pool they are expected to apply from the beginning/mid of April, then the new cash register system will be installed, said Klaffenbacher.

When looking at the exact numbers, there was one or two requests.

“What happened to the sidewalk in Schlegldorf?

It’s at 0,” asked Sabine Gerg (SPD).

“There are household leftovers,” reassured Klaffenbacher.

In other words: Funds were already planned here last year but not spent.

This applies to some areas - including the barrier-free conversion of bus stops.

Markus Ertl (FWG) wanted to know whether progress would be made this year.

Only one has been implemented so far.

“If nothing goes on, I'll have a hard time.” But things will continue, replied Karl Ertl from the Technical Building Authority.

“It starts in April.” The stops at the train station will be renovated this year.

There is a total of 202,000 euros in budget leftovers.

That's enough to start planning the next projects in this area.

“We would like to move things along faster, but we can’t.

But we’re staying tuned,” added Klaffenbacher.

Conversion to LED: Waiting for the federal government

The conversion of street lighting to LED is progressing even more slowly.

However, this is not the fault of the community, but rather the federal government.

The mayor complained that they have been waiting for funding approval for 15 months now.

The pressure was increased again because some lamps were broken during the hailstorm last summer.

“But we will probably repair them now, otherwise we still won’t have any lamps next winter,” said Klaffenbacher.

“That’s really, really unfortunate.”

The main committee approved the budget draft unanimously.

It will be finally decided at the next meeting of the local council.
